laudisio wine dinner series

An intimate gathering in celebration of food and wine.

Laudisio Italian Restaurant is opening its extensive wine cellar to the public, by way of a monthly wine pairing. Each month Mark Kretz, along with Chefs Sakima Isaac and Paul Mack, present a different theme. The traditions of cuisine will be explored and integrated with the various grapes of Italia. Most wine dinners at Laudisio consist of 5 courses of food, paired with 6 different wines.

Dinners feature a particular region of Italy, or sometimes a particular vineyard, although there is no rigid format for the wines that are chosen. General Manager Mark Kretz takes great joy in hosting these monthly events. In the past 30 years Kretz has conceived of and hosted hundreds of wine dinners, for 13 years at Laudisio, and previously at the Four Seasons in San Francisco, and says he "still loves the experience."

"At Laudisio, wine dinners are particularly enjoyable for me since we are able to present regional wines and match them with the culinary icons of a particular region. Chef Isaac and I have done many together,” says Kretz. “We relish selecting menu items that build from one course to the next in terms of weight, texture and visuals. Once the food menu is completed, I begin selecting the wines which also build in weight and nuance."


Laudisio wine dinners have the feel of a complete visit to a unique Italian wine region, with Mark Kretz as the guide. “Nothing gives me more pleasure than finding just the right wine for the right food,” says Kretz. “My challenge for each wine dinner is to make it better than the last one.”

Costa di Bussia Wine Dinner

Wednesday, December 10. 6:30 pm.

Featuring 5 courses paired with 6 wines from Sardegna.

The Tenuta Arnulfo estate has got such historic
characteristic, particular soil and sun exposition, to
have a sub-area on its own. This acknowledgment
dates back to the nineteenth century, particularly
with Renato Ratti paper, that inserts the estate
between the historical wine sub-areas in the Barolo
region.
